Ian Kingstone
14 October -
Ian Kingstone’s paradoxical surreal narrative paintings reflect the reality of ourselves and the everyday fears and neurosis that comprise each and every one of us. That ‘something unseen that haunts the day’, doubts and fears, small reveries and desperation are themes which can be sensed in much of his work.
Ian’s recent infatuation with the poetry of Robert Frost (1875-1965) has inspired and blended this years confection of 10 paintings at the Aesthete Parnell Gallery. As such, this exhibition entitled ‘The Road Not Taken’ is a nod in the direction of the poets most recognised work. Exhibition Preview

Matthew Browne: Mercurial Space
12 November - 7 December
I have written many times about my paintings and now for the first time I am able to apply my theoretical concerns to the additional process of sculpture.
Painting, as I see it, involves in part a trompe l’oeil and illusionary approach to the relationships of form and space to subject. A painter works in two dimensions but invariably cannot avoid considering three dimensions. Space, light, form and colour can be controlled and manipulated to achieve a work that is autonomous, consistently still and relatively unchanging… (Matthew Browne).Exhibition Preview

David Trubridge: Spiral Islands
19 August -
The New Zealand-first launch of Spiral Islands, as recently seen in design shows in Milan and New York. Trubridge reincarnates natural forms as light fixtures, 'Cloud lights' and seating, 'Island seats'. He explores the use of the spiral shape, which is related to the koru spiral. The exhibition also features a David Trubridge prototype showcase, with many never-before-seen lights, furniture and accessories on display and for purchase. The exhibition runs through to the end of September.

Simon Richardson: Otago Origins
31 October -
Richardson’s fascination with textural and intricate detail and the mundane everyday object are the fundamental characteristics of his work. When looking at the stylistic genre Richardson employs, one is likely to put him within the same category as artists like the Spanish realist painter, Antonio Lopez-Garcia, and his friend and mentor Grahame Sydney.Exhibition Preview.

Pankhurst Studio Gallery
Current Work
The Pankhurst Studio Gallery celebrated its first year in Parnel, in July, with the addition of nine new paintings. Pankhurst’s paintings are realist and surrealist in style and have won him international recognition. The subjects of his distinctive original works reflect and return to his key life experiences – his country boyhood in Rapaura-Picton and Otago (landscapes), later years in Wellington (seascapes and urban images) and Auckland (interiors and still life work), where he also developed his silk screen original art work.

Martin Selman: New Zealand Sculptures
18 November - 7 December
At a time when much of what we consume as art is ephemeral, fleeting or impermanent due to the increasing presence of installation and video art, Hawke's Bay sculptor Martin Selman’s work is refreshingly solid.

Nigel Brown "Lamp"
15 October - 8 November
Now one of New Zealand’s most well-known artists, Nigel Brown gives us a rare insight into the background of his new exhibition “Illuminate”. Nigel Brown is respected as a “thinking” artist, one who could be described as an “artist for the people”. His work constantly challenges and engages people of all ages and from all walks of life. "I am conscious that much art these days is removed and lacking heart. My work has a heart centred on my own life but always reaching beyond that. Pat Hanly once talked to me about “some artists painting for themselves and others painting for an audience”. I think good art can have both functions. I am certainly attempting to achieve a dialogue with my audience."Exhibition Preview
